About

A collective laboratory, since 2016.

For 10 years we have imagined, experimented with, studied and built the foundations of a new generation of social and distributed organisations — at the crossroads of technology, art and society.

Our rejection of modern marketing methods and our dissatisfaction with conventional organisational models led us to a distinct identity: independent, rigorous and sustainable, grounded in rare and complementary fields of expertise.

The model

The people who do the work own the company.

Samouraï Coop is a SCOP — a French worker cooperative, registered in Paris since 2017. It is a legal form, not a marketing line, and it has one consequence worth stating plainly: the people who shoot the films and write the code hold the company, and decide together how it is run.

Over the years the coop structured itself around several hubs — research, development, creation, production and auditing — while preserving a horizontal governance true to its founding spirit: freedom, rigour, solidarity and curiosity.

Technologies

R&D on distributed governance, cryptography, consensus and peer-to-peer systems. Open-source applications and tools — from an operating system for communities to a multi-signature wallet adopted across the Cosmos ecosystem.

Production & creation

Films, documentaries, design, UX and educational content — including Samouraï Grants, a creative fund supporting independent documentary filmmakers, whose works are later shown at our Paris event, the Hyper Hacktive Festival. Motion design, visual identity and event production. Independent media: samourai.tv.

“We’re building the mix between a production company, a music label, a creators’ coop that invites its community, and an artist & hackers management agency that makes them autonomous from itself. And one day, we will totally decentralize.”

The crew

One team, several expert crews.

“We are different, and enjoy it. We are filmmakers, artists, designers, hackers, developers, and whatever our tools, we’re all united to share knowledge with people, connect cultures, explode boxes and borders, create bridges between people, opening up new perceptions.”

Governance Research Lab

Research is a hub here, not a side project.

The lab studies cooperative and distributed governance, with Maël Rolland — socio-economist, EHESS doctor — as independent researcher in residence. Its first public output is a living Cooperative & Web3 glossary: a bridge between two worlds that share values and lack a common language.

Samouraï Records

An independent music label inside the cooperative. It backs a new generation of independent artists — from acoustic to jazz, dub to techno — and its catalogue is available for films, series and advertising, including our own.
